Carving is my hobby and my escapism. Any spare time I have, you will find me with a chainsaw in my hand. I have found that carving from wood gives me the freedom to bring to life anything I can imagine in a way that I have not found in other art forms. Over time, and with a great deal of practice, I have been able to master traditional wood carving techniques to achieve high-quality finishes and to experiment with different effects. I love nothing more than creating something new; this means you will never see the same carving twice.
All the wood I use is locally sourced and is being repurposed after having been cut or blown down. I have been very fortunate to carve in oak, walnut, black walnut, cedar and many more.
I finish all my carvings with several coats of wood oil as I care about how long they last and do my utmost to ensure they will weather well. I want my customers to enjoy my carvings as much as I enjoyed making them whether the pieces are purchased from my stock at a show, a free-standing commission or a site commission. I always enjoy meeting my customers in person so do come and say hello if you ever see me at a show. You can find a list of all the shows I am attending on the shows page.
I am a chainsaw carver and artist from East Anglia. I live in the Fens with my husband, who is also a creative person, in the home where we raised our children. My love of art is shared in our family and our house is full of the artwork created by the four of us, however, my chainsaw carving workshop is actually based in Cambridge, where I was born. My workshop is nestled into the beautiful Cambridgeshire countryside set within my father’s working yard.
It was with my father, at a show, that I first had the thought to try chainsaw carving for myself after watching another carver. I had experience in working with wood through previous projects and I am extremely fortunate that my father had the tools. One day I tried on the chainsaw pants and simply had a go. Though my first pieces were far from perfect I was happy with what I produced and stuck with it. I have since spent many hours honing my skills.
